My first driving lesson

January 20th, 2007 by Kemar

Okay my Saturday morning started out pretty normal, me waking up around 9AM having breakfast around 10AM, being on the computer until the cows come home and the usual. But there was a little twist to my Saturday, around 11:30AM I heard some asking for me, he was asking the neighbours, and I could here him as I live in an apartment, so I go out side and there is a police jeep outside and a policeman asking for me, and I am like “What the fuck did I do this time”. So I open the door drinking my water and go outside and talk to him, and he asks if I am Kemar and I say yes, he tells me my grandfather sent him, and this point “What the Fuck is going on” is going through my head, then he tells me that my grandfather sent him, and that he is going to be my driving instructor, and that time my heart beat starts to go back to normal. He asks for me home and cell number and I gave them to him, and he tells me that he’ll taking me driving around 4:15PM. So I go back inside and get on with my lazy Saturday.

So I get ready to leave the house for 4:15PM and after like 15 minutes of waiting I am like “Is this guy coming??” So I turn on the TV and watch it for a little while and at like 4:50PM he arrives. If there is one thing I hate is being late and people being late and keeping me back. Aside from all that when he comes he tells me to get in the car. I get in and he takes me to a nearby church where he turns off the car and gets out and I get in the driver seat and he in the passenger. He first takes me through all the gears, ask me about the pedals and all the stuff about the dash board and stuff that I already know, then he asks me about the speed limit and I told him. Lets just say that before I left the car park, the van had cut out more than 7 times.

He then told me to start the car and then walked me through how to pick up drive on the car, so after a few stop and gos, he has me drive through some poles in the car park for about 5 minutes. Then he tells me lets get out of here, because there was this little girl riding her bike as if she had some kind of death wish, riding in front of the car all the time. So we leave the church’s car park and head off along the highway, had to go through a round a bout before I hit the high way, which was pretty easy. Then I had to take the van up this hill, which was a big one mind you, but I actually got up it good without cutting out.

So he now tells me to make a right turn and go down this hill, so the road is clear and then out of no where this van comes speeding down the road which made me hit the acceleration to get out of its way. So there were a few corners ahead and the van is still behind me so I drive much slower than I was before, which mind you I was driving at like 20KMPH before, just to keep him behind me a little longer.

So I take another right turn and starter on my way back home, and I was getting tired of driving slow, so i started to accelerate making sure not to go too fast as I didn’t want him to realise it and tell me to slow down. Had to pull off the road because we kept smelling acid, which we later found out was coming from the battery. Get back on the road and on my way back home I get to a major stop which meant that I had to stop, and then go again. Which was okay as I did not cut out.

Back to the round about then on the straight to go home. Yay, ohh wait one more right turn and another left before I am on the straight for home. But anywhose, so I turn right come back to the road, which is having road works done on it, so it has been virtually reduced to a one lane road, and this time I technically don’t have the right of way. But lucking nothing is coming so I get to drive along.

Make the final turn before getting on the straight to my house, get near my house and there are a bunch of kids walking in the road so I was forced to slow down. Got back home safely without hitting anything or anyone. Learned a lot and am very much looking forward to my next lesson. But there is one thing I did not like, when I was going to close to the end of the road or over the line, he kept pulling on the steering to get it back. I understand why he did it, but seeing as nothing was coming he could have told me and let me bring it under control myself. All in all I would say I did fair for my first lesson.

I got my Learner’s Permit

January 2nd, 2007 by Kemar

Okay my day started out way differently than I am accustomed to, you know the whole waking up at 9AM just couldn’t happen this morning instead I found myself up at 4:45AM. I had to do this as this was the only way I would have gotten where I to on time.

Left home around 6:10AM, mind you outside is cold and there is hardly any sun light. I will admit I was a little scared as knowing my luck I thought I was going to get there very late. But by 8AM I was there for my 8:30 appointment to do the Regulation test in which I was required to get a minimum of 15 out of a possible 20 questions right in order to get my permit. I was scared that I would fail, as there is no way I could fail that test.
Did the test… Ohh wait, lets talk about my journey to the Licensing Authority, had to catch a bus from home and go in Bridgetown where I had to take another bus to go by the Licensing Authority, Got in Bridgetown at 7:30AM, got by the Licensing Authority like 8AM. So I stayed outside and reviewed the Highway Code.

Time comes for me to do the test, I go in this room take a number and a pencil and sit behind a desk, most of my fear of failing had already left my body. Just concentrated on passing the test, making sure that I answered all the questions correctly and read through the thoroughly. I finished in like 10 to 15 minutes if that much, but I didn’t want to fail so I did something that I usually don’t do and that is check over, I did it and changed two answers, two answers that would later turn out to be correct, so its a good thing I checked over. After doing it and checking it over I decided to hand it in, gave it to the guy who marked it and all that jazz, he marked it, and I was sitting there wondering if I passed or not, then I say him write what I thought was a 1 then an 8, and I was right, I had actually gotten 18 out of a possible 20 on the regulation Test. I passed. Would have gotten 16 which is still a pass, had I not checked over.
I was actually the first person to pass the test for the morning, I saw two guys go before me and they both failed, well a guy and a girl, the girl who had wished me good luck and I wished her it back and she failed. Sad. So now the guy is printing something that certifies that I passed the test, he goes to stamp it and he Stamps “02 Dec 2006″ on it, realises it changes the stamp, and stamps it again, this time the date reads “02 Jan 2006″ So I bring it to his attention that he has the date wrong so he has to change it yet again, which means I now I have three time stamps on my paper.

Go downstairs have to fill out this form and all that jazz, then get sent over to yet another office which mind you meant that I had to exit the building I was in to get to it. Get in there and thankfully the line wasn’t that long, I pay for the permit, and get it along with some other papers and after waiting about 10 minutes for her to get everything straighten out.

Now I leave to go home, realising that its 9:30AM and I am starving that’s what I get for not eating breakfast this morning, so i decide I am going to buy some pizza, had to wait for it to finish, enjoy the pizza and make my way home.

So I get home now, my mom asked me what happened I told her that I had failed, and mind you I did it very convincingly, I must say I can be a convincing liar when I want to be. And she believed me and all that jazz, then I told her I was kidding shower her the permit and she started screaming for joy and jumping up and down. LOL. Quite frankly she was happier than I was, I don’t think I even smiled when I got it, well I may have done that but that was it. My was happy, I was happy as I had finally gotten my dad and my grand parents off my case about going for it. I decide to call my grandmother and my dad to let them know that I got it, told my dad and he said he is going to get one of his friends to be my instructor.

So in 6 months time I may have my license, and be able to legally drive here.

That’s the best part of my day, so until next time. Good bye.

Goals for the Year 2007

January 1st, 2007 by Kemar

Well first of all I would like to wish all of my visitors a Happy and Prosperous 2007 and I hope you make this year a good year. Because I know for one I am determined to make it a much better year than last year.

Here it goes my goals for this year:

1. Improve all of my grades to at a very minimum a B+. Putting in all work required to get this grade.

2. Get all Grade ones in the subjects which I am doing at CXC level this year.

3. Stop procrastinating on things so much, especially my school work.

4. Become a nicer person to people and stop getting angry at people so quickly.

5. Get into the Barbados Community College.

6. Learn at the very minimum the basic features of Photoshop and how to make some images.

7. Get my drivers License.

8. Save at least $1500 before I got to Community College.

9. Become more active in the hope of getting rid of some of my weight.

10. Be a better kid to my parents and a better big brother to my two younger siblings.

11. Stop Procrastinating on a whole. When I say I will do something make sure I set a deadline for myself and get it done within that time frame.

12. Follow a schedule which should help me to accomplish at least two of the above stated goals.

I intend to accomplish all of these goals, and doing what needs to be done to accomplish them.
