My first driving lesson

January 20th, 2007 by Kemar

Okay my Saturday morning started out pretty normal, me waking up around 9AM having breakfast around 10AM, being on the computer until the cows come home and the usual. But there was a little twist to my Saturday, around 11:30AM I heard some asking for me, he was asking the neighbours, and I could here him as I live in an apartment, so I go out side and there is a police jeep outside and a policeman asking for me, and I am like “What the fuck did I do this time”. So I open the door drinking my water and go outside and talk to him, and he asks if I am Kemar and I say yes, he tells me my grandfather sent him, and this point “What the Fuck is going on” is going through my head, then he tells me that my grandfather sent him, and that he is going to be my driving instructor, and that time my heart beat starts to go back to normal. He asks for me home and cell number and I gave them to him, and he tells me that he’ll taking me driving around 4:15PM. So I go back inside and get on with my lazy Saturday.

So I get ready to leave the house for 4:15PM and after like 15 minutes of waiting I am like “Is this guy coming??” So I turn on the TV and watch it for a little while and at like 4:50PM he arrives. If there is one thing I hate is being late and people being late and keeping me back. Aside from all that when he comes he tells me to get in the car. I get in and he takes me to a nearby church where he turns off the car and gets out and I get in the driver seat and he in the passenger. He first takes me through all the gears, ask me about the pedals and all the stuff about the dash board and stuff that I already know, then he asks me about the speed limit and I told him. Lets just say that before I left the car park, the van had cut out more than 7 times.

He then told me to start the car and then walked me through how to pick up drive on the car, so after a few stop and gos, he has me drive through some poles in the car park for about 5 minutes. Then he tells me lets get out of here, because there was this little girl riding her bike as if she had some kind of death wish, riding in front of the car all the time. So we leave the church’s car park and head off along the highway, had to go through a round a bout before I hit the high way, which was pretty easy. Then I had to take the van up this hill, which was a big one mind you, but I actually got up it good without cutting out.

So he now tells me to make a right turn and go down this hill, so the road is clear and then out of no where this van comes speeding down the road which made me hit the acceleration to get out of its way. So there were a few corners ahead and the van is still behind me so I drive much slower than I was before, which mind you I was driving at like 20KMPH before, just to keep him behind me a little longer.

So I take another right turn and starter on my way back home, and I was getting tired of driving slow, so i started to accelerate making sure not to go too fast as I didn’t want him to realise it and tell me to slow down. Had to pull off the road because we kept smelling acid, which we later found out was coming from the battery. Get back on the road and on my way back home I get to a major stop which meant that I had to stop, and then go again. Which was okay as I did not cut out.

Back to the round about then on the straight to go home. Yay, ohh wait one more right turn and another left before I am on the straight for home. But anywhose, so I turn right come back to the road, which is having road works done on it, so it has been virtually reduced to a one lane road, and this time I technically don’t have the right of way. But lucking nothing is coming so I get to drive along.

Make the final turn before getting on the straight to my house, get near my house and there are a bunch of kids walking in the road so I was forced to slow down. Got back home safely without hitting anything or anyone. Learned a lot and am very much looking forward to my next lesson. But there is one thing I did not like, when I was going to close to the end of the road or over the line, he kept pulling on the steering to get it back. I understand why he did it, but seeing as nothing was coming he could have told me and let me bring it under control myself. All in all I would say I did fair for my first lesson.

I got my Learner’s Permit

January 2nd, 2007 by Kemar

Okay my day started out way differently than I am accustomed to, you know the whole waking up at 9AM just couldn’t happen this morning instead I found myself up at 4:45AM. I had to do this as this was the only way I would have gotten where I to on time.

Left home around 6:10AM, mind you outside is cold and there is hardly any sun light. I will admit I was a little scared as knowing my luck I thought I was going to get there very late. But by 8AM I was there for my 8:30 appointment to do the Regulation test in which I was required to get a minimum of 15 out of a possible 20 questions right in order to get my permit. I was scared that I would fail, as there is no way I could fail that test.
Did the test… Ohh wait, lets talk about my journey to the Licensing Authority, had to catch a bus from home and go in Bridgetown where I had to take another bus to go by the Licensing Authority, Got in Bridgetown at 7:30AM, got by the Licensing Authority like 8AM. So I stayed outside and reviewed the Highway Code.

Time comes for me to do the test, I go in this room take a number and a pencil and sit behind a desk, most of my fear of failing had already left my body. Just concentrated on passing the test, making sure that I answered all the questions correctly and read through the thoroughly. I finished in like 10 to 15 minutes if that much, but I didn’t want to fail so I did something that I usually don’t do and that is check over, I did it and changed two answers, two answers that would later turn out to be correct, so its a good thing I checked over. After doing it and checking it over I decided to hand it in, gave it to the guy who marked it and all that jazz, he marked it, and I was sitting there wondering if I passed or not, then I say him write what I thought was a 1 then an 8, and I was right, I had actually gotten 18 out of a possible 20 on the regulation Test. I passed. Would have gotten 16 which is still a pass, had I not checked over.
I was actually the first person to pass the test for the morning, I saw two guys go before me and they both failed, well a guy and a girl, the girl who had wished me good luck and I wished her it back and she failed. Sad. So now the guy is printing something that certifies that I passed the test, he goes to stamp it and he Stamps “02 Dec 2006″ on it, realises it changes the stamp, and stamps it again, this time the date reads “02 Jan 2006″ So I bring it to his attention that he has the date wrong so he has to change it yet again, which means I now I have three time stamps on my paper.

Go downstairs have to fill out this form and all that jazz, then get sent over to yet another office which mind you meant that I had to exit the building I was in to get to it. Get in there and thankfully the line wasn’t that long, I pay for the permit, and get it along with some other papers and after waiting about 10 minutes for her to get everything straighten out.

Now I leave to go home, realising that its 9:30AM and I am starving that’s what I get for not eating breakfast this morning, so i decide I am going to buy some pizza, had to wait for it to finish, enjoy the pizza and make my way home.

So I get home now, my mom asked me what happened I told her that I had failed, and mind you I did it very convincingly, I must say I can be a convincing liar when I want to be. And she believed me and all that jazz, then I told her I was kidding shower her the permit and she started screaming for joy and jumping up and down. LOL. Quite frankly she was happier than I was, I don’t think I even smiled when I got it, well I may have done that but that was it. My was happy, I was happy as I had finally gotten my dad and my grand parents off my case about going for it. I decide to call my grandmother and my dad to let them know that I got it, told my dad and he said he is going to get one of his friends to be my instructor.

So in 6 months time I may have my license, and be able to legally drive here.

That’s the best part of my day, so until next time. Good bye.

Goals for the Year 2007

January 1st, 2007 by Kemar

Well first of all I would like to wish all of my visitors a Happy and Prosperous 2007 and I hope you make this year a good year. Because I know for one I am determined to make it a much better year than last year.

Here it goes my goals for this year:

1. Improve all of my grades to at a very minimum a B+. Putting in all work required to get this grade.

2. Get all Grade ones in the subjects which I am doing at CXC level this year.

3. Stop procrastinating on things so much, especially my school work.

4. Become a nicer person to people and stop getting angry at people so quickly.

5. Get into the Barbados Community College.

6. Learn at the very minimum the basic features of Photoshop and how to make some images.

7. Get my drivers License.

8. Save at least $1500 before I got to Community College.

9. Become more active in the hope of getting rid of some of my weight.

10. Be a better kid to my parents and a better big brother to my two younger siblings.

11. Stop Procrastinating on a whole. When I say I will do something make sure I set a deadline for myself and get it done within that time frame.

12. Follow a schedule which should help me to accomplish at least two of the above stated goals.

I intend to accomplish all of these goals, and doing what needs to be done to accomplish them.

Christmas Day

December 25th, 2006 by Kemar

I must say that today was by far the worst Christmas I can remember ever having.

First I wanted to sleep through the day because for some reason I knew I was going to hate the day, but that sure as hell didn’t happen. I particularly told both my mom and little brother not to wake me up, my mom honoured my request, but my little brother made it his mission to wake me up. So after a million attempts to wake me up and him keeping so much noise I just could get back to sleep so I gave in and got up.

I had a very light breakfast consisting of a slice of sweet bread, cake and some tea. Didn’t really want much to eat anyway. So my mom and grandfather start to make the Christmas Lunch, when they realise they have absolutely no seasoning to season the fish and meat with, so they call by my grand mother to see if she had any, which she did so I had to go and get it. She only lives like a mile to a mile and a half way from me, so I rode. Get up there get the seasoning along with some other things, ohhh joy on my way back I get soaked, well not really but the rain fell and wet me.

I’m back home now, get something to drink and watch a little TV and battling with my brother to change the channel.

Now comes the Christmas Lunch, I had Macaroni Pie, Sweet Potato Pie, Rice, Fish, and some vegetables. This all went down very good, so much for me wanting to eat light today.

My mom has to work on Christmas, so she has to leaves and my little brother wants to go by his grandmother which he does. So that leaves me and my grandfather here, we watch a little TV. Then he has to leave and go back home, which leaves me home alone. Which wasn’t so bad, I got some sleep and surfed the net for a little while. At first it was great being home alone but after a while it kicks in, its Christmas and I am home bored out of my mind, the net gives me no satisfaction and there is nothing of interest on the TV. Damn.

So that’s how my Christmas went.

A night out

December 4th, 2006 by Kemar

So today on our way home my mom who is a hostess at a hotel tells me an my little brother that we are going out for dinner tonight with some of her friends that she met while working at this hotel. And this was not the first time that they have taken us to dinner or been our hosts in any way, last year when my mom went to England they took her out too, they are from England too.

So I come home and look for some thing to wear, iron them and take a bath then leave the house. We actually got there on time and they were at the bar. The one thing I didn’t like was that people were in there smoking, i just can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke, however I just learnt to deal with it and not fuss about it.

So for my starter I had some vegetable samosas, which were very good and hot, they served it with ketchup. I think they could have made some good sauce that would have gone with it, but hey they still taste good with the ketchup.

For the Main Course, I have garlic fried shrimp with rice, the shrimp was great, I loved it. My mom was right when she told me that Garlic Shrimp does taste good, hell I can still even taste it hours later. I just have this love for shrimp.

Yeah I had some desert too, some ice cream. Which is okay as I had some of the same brand earlier today.

We all sat down and enjoyed our dinner over a good conversation, which was mainly me listening to them, but I talked and was talked to too, The gentleman asked me what I planned to do after school and I told him and he gave me some good advice. It was a great experience.

My little brother got a little restless and was running around in the restaurant, but this was only coming on to the end so it was no big deal in my opinion, or rather I didn’t make it a big deal.

I must get out of the house more often, my mom was shocked when I said I was going as I usually don’t leave home.

Teachers say Enough is Enough

November 10th, 2006 by Kemar

Today the teachers at my school basically said Enough is Enough and put down the chalk and instead took up placards and headed out to the car park and in front of the principal’s office where they protested for the most part of the first half of school. They were apparently protesting what they deemed as “the last straw”. This came sometime after the Principal issues 12 teachers with letters saying that they were absent on Teacher’s Professional Day, when in fact they were at a workshop put on by the Teacher’s Union. The principal is claiming that he received no verification of their attendance and the letter included something about docking their pay and some other crap.

Some of the teachers wore placards which said something about Intimidation, Harassment and spying, and when I asked one of the teachers where all of this stuff was going from she told me it was the principal. And from what I understand this was one of the many things that lead to the teachers taking industrial action today. The teachers also said that the morale of the school had dropped every since the current Principal took up his current office.

And there was a record number of 13 fights, beat downs and would have been fights, and I go to a school where we don’t even see that much fights in an entire school year, yet it all happened in one day.

As school gossip has it, it looks as if the teachers are wanting the principal along with another teacher fired. And as the student’s council is saying if the teacher is fired the students will have their say and we will be having a sit in and refuse to go to classes. However no one really cares what happens to the principal.

I was so Worried

November 7th, 2006 by Kemar

Okay today me and some of my friends were playing around and we were trying to put ice down each others backs and stuff like that for the fun of it. I was iced by this girl so I chased her around until I finally caught her and was able to ice her back. But shortly after I iced her she started hyperventilating at first we thought she was trying to send us on a guilt trip, but then we soon realised that she wasn’t playing. So we sat her down and tried to calm her down and see if we could get her breathing to slow down, but our attempts proved futile.

So I decided that we should take her down to the office against her will but for her safety. There her records were pulled to see if she suffered from anything like asthma but she did not, so this started to really worry us. Eventually we took he to the Guidance Counselor’s office and tried there, her breathing at times would slow down and then like when people enter the room or for no apparent reason it would start right back up again, I must say this was really scary for us. As we didn’t know what the hell was going on with her, hell who wouldn’t be scared if their friend was in the state she was in.

So then the school called her parents and eventually her sister came to pick her up, but they took her to the clinic nearby, which I felt that they should have done when we first brought her in and not wait until 1/2 hour later to take her. Damn. So she goes to the clinic and they are able to stabilise her to the point where she was speaking again, because she was unable to speak earlier. But the people at the clinic told her sister and the Counselor to take her to the hospital ASAP as it was much more serious than hyperventilating and they also wanted to do some x rays and other stuff on her.

It was a relief when she came on the net and told me that she was feeling better.

Results of Popularity Contest

October 29th, 2006 by Kemar

Well I didn’t win it, but I knew that before the results were official. But it is sad how popular people are chosen for positions as opposed to people who can actually fulfill the duties. But so is life.

I have been really busy with school these last few weeks, whether it is doing Chemistry labs, writing up labs for Physics or doing French homework, I am just caught up these days. Well this is the first time in a ling time that I can truthfully say that I have actually been doing work, especially homework.

I updated to the new Firefox, Firefox 2.0 and I love it. Seeing as it is Halloween season I found it appropriate to get myself a Halloween theme for Firefox and it looks great.

I Entered a Popularity Contest

October 11th, 2006 by Kemar

Yay!! for me, I entered a popularity contest today.

Well it is not a popularity contest in the actually definition of the word, but I strongly considered it as one. Well I was nominated for the position of House Captain today in my house in my school. And in my opinion when it comes to the elections of House Officers it is a pure popularity contest, even student council members are elected in a better way. With house officers you don’t get to campaign or anything, you just come in nominate persons, and vote for them, the nominees don’t even get to make a speech on why they should be chosen, so when it boils down to it, it is only your friends or people who have seen you in a similar role that will vote for you. And to me it is just not fair.

I am currently running against two females, one of who has a much better chance at winning as she is ‘popular’ and I am not. Honestly being popular does not make you a better leader. As I know that I can help my house to win in what ever we do, I am a good leader.

When I was nominated and I was asked to stand so that they could see who I am, I heard comments like “No, not he”, “I don’t like him” and other things like that. Mainly coming from the junior school, who were promptly shut up by the House Mistress. But for some reason I still think that I have a fair chance, I may get it, and if not I may get Deputy. I would rather House Captain than Deputy. But which ever I get, even if it is none at all I will still do my best to take my house forward.

On to a more funnier and lighter things for the day, After this I was off for the two lessons of the day, which meant that I had office duty and had to hand out late slips to the kids that for some reason cannot get to school early. So I handed out like 5 of them and then realise that I never wrote the time that the came to school in the book, it was only on the late slip. hahaha, I found it fun.

Then I had English, fun ohh fun. I just love how my teacher put people out of the class, she usually says “[Student’s Name] Depart” or “I invite you to Depart”, it never fails to put a smile on my face.

School finished early today by one hour, as the rain was falling and there was a threat of flooding, and my school floods very easily.

So that was the highlights of my day.

Running Cross country or should I say Cross Town

October 6th, 2006 by Kemar

Well before I get to that part I’ll start with the beginning of my day.

Okay we had general assembly as we do have every Monday and Fridays, boring as usual so boring that I really can’t remember what happened… Okay I am boring you, so I’ll fast forward to like a couple of minutes later. Me being a Returning 5th, we have to do Service Commitment, so mine is to supervise  Study Hour after school, so I volunteered Wednesdays after school, so that I will get home late those three days on a stretch, Science and Tech Club on Mondays, and Boy’s Club on Tuesday and now Study Hour on Wednesday. Not that I mind, so I am supervising it with a Good female friend of mines and this other guys, we were friend since we first came to that school. SO I’ll have fun in Study Hour.

So lets get to my “Cross Town” run. Well every year in PE we all have to do a cross country. So the PE teacher tells us the route and says it is shorter than the last one, when he tells us I am like “And What was the longer route”. Well me and three other guys decide that we weren’t in for running it period, so we walked most of it. So we got to a part where we were going to cut through, and behold a plum tree, so we spend a few minutes getting the plums down and they we huge and taste really great. So we got on with our ‘Cross Town’ ‘run’ and we came to a pipe so we deiced to wet our feet as we decided not to wear shoes, and may I say that road was really hot.

So we were walking through town talking a bunch of crap. Well we cheated as none of us had intentions of running to start with. The way we did it, we cut the course in like three parts and only did 1/3 of the course. So if it was 6Km we did about 2KM. We took so many short cuts that it wasn’t funny. But the aim was not to get back to the school before the others who were faster than we were, hence why we walked. And we cut through a place that was very close to the school, we didn’t realise that we would have been so close. HAhaha, well we ran the the last 200m so that we would have the sweat from running to make the Teachers think we did something.

So when we get back, the others asked us where we cut through, I did not answer them as I have no intentions of telling them. They wanted to know because we came back just after them. They told us that they decided to stop in the pet store and play games. What the hell, WOW!! We did crap on that course. But the plums were the best.
